"Recollection of Trace Department Research Institute Forensic Researcher" Interview with Dr. Kei Koga
"I made my debut with the application for the" Comic Zenon Manga Award ". Eventually, the serialization of" Reminiscences of the Trace Department Research Institute Forensic Researcher "was started. The work was made into a TV drama."
The much talked about work "Trace: Recollections of a Forensic Scientist" was adapted into a TV drama from January to March 2019.
The author, Professor Kei Koga, made his debut as a manga artist after winning the "Comic Zenon Manga Award" held by Coamix.
"Since I first read" Weekly Shonen Jump "when I was in the lower grades of elementary school, I started drawing manga naturally," said Professor Koga. Submitted a work to the "Manga Audition" (19th) to be held.He says that the reason for this was "there are no lines, and the theme and number of pages are limited."
What made you apply for the "Comic Zenon Manga Award"?
I applied for the "Manga Audition" that I was looking for at Comic Zenon and won the second prize.
For me at the time when I was having a hard time making a story, the lack of dialogue and the limited number of themes and pages motivated me to draw the work (theme at the time of application: the moment I cried).Another reason for applying is that I thought that if I could win the award, it would lead to a step up.
After receiving the award, I applied for the "Comic Zenon Manga Award" at the recommendation of the editorial department.
What made you start the serialization of "Recollections of Trace Research Institute Forensic Researchers"?
When I told the editorial staff that I had previously worked at Kaken, I was given the advice that I should make use of that experience in my work.
Can you tell us how you felt when "Trace Department Research Institute Forensic Researcher's Recollection" was made into a TV drama?
I was very happy because making a TV drama was one of my big goals.
Also, I felt that criminal and medical stuff were being sought after by the world, so I continued to serialize while inspiring myself that one day it would surely become a TV drama.
Has your work changed in terms of creativity as a result of making it into a TV drama?
I have become even more aware of what readers and viewers are looking for.Specifically, it is a change in consciousness about stories and expressions.
Would you please give a message to manga artists who are thinking of applying for or bringing in a manga award based on what you have gained through your work with Coamix?
In order to deliver manga to readers, we need the power of many people, including the editorial department.
As with any job, I think it's most important to work seriously, honestly and responsibly.
